Recently, i’ve been wrestling and challenged with church ownership in today’s society. By ownership, I mean that if one says they are a follower of Christ, they are to commit themselves to a spiritual family (church) and be actively involved in growing/serving the community. The more I talk with people. it seems like it’s easier to attend church for particular beneficial reasons rather than committing themselves to grow and nurture it.
I’m convinced that we are to have the mentality that the body of believers, the community, and the church we commit to is our spiritual family. We stick with them through the thick and thin. Can we expect to be hurt at times? Yes. Because the church is made of broken/fallen people; however, the reward and harvest of engaging in a church is far greater than the negatives. We step up when there’s a need. We respond when there’s a hurt. We celebrate in times of triumphs. We enjoy life together as a family of Christ. We live for moments to be the church to the lost! The truth is, the church doesn’t need us… We need God’s church in our lives. We commit, expose, and open ourselves to the church that we trust and believe wants the best for us. Why? Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. (Gal. 5:25)
